About Emeskai

Emeskai is freely derived from the abbreviation MSKAI, i.e., Modern Sports Karate Associates International. This is the name of the international network of karate groups that practice Modern Sports Karate (MSK) according to a rational and cross-stylistic training methodology.

Emeskai was developed in 1971 at the Sports Institute of the RWTH Aachen University as a novel training concept for sports fighting and self-defense. The observation of different styles of fighting led to the conclusion that despite great differences in training, fighters act in the same patterns of movement.

From this, a training system was developed that quickly and directly teaches the beginner the workable techniques for competition and self-defense. Kicks, foot sweeps and fist punches are embedded in a logical movement scheme that allows the various techniques to be varied and combined in many ways.

Modern Sport Karate sees itself as a further development of classical karate on the basis of modern sports science. More information can be found in the book “Modern Sports Karate” by Dr. Rudolf Jakhel, X. Dan.

In the beginning, a training suit with long pants (no shoes or socks) is sufficient. But you only get the real karate feeling when you wear a karate uniform (Gi). This is available from about 35,-EUR. In the first training sessions, a collective order is carried out to purchase the uniform. Additionally, various protectors for the competition training will be needed at a later time point.
